Tennessee lawmakers are considering dedicating another day to Dolly Parton. The iconic singer and philanthropist passed away Tuesday at the age of 80. Earlier this year, Jan. 19 became “Dolly Parton Day” in celebration of her 80th birthday.
Now, lawmakers are considering Sept. 25, or 9/25, as “9 to 5 Day.”
Tennessee Sen. Jessie Seal, R-New Tazewell, proposed the new commemoration. He’s one of several Tennessee politicians from both sides of the aisle to mourn Parton’s passing. President Donald Trump announced flags will fly at half-staff for the next week in her honor.

“While every day is a fitting day to honor Dolly,” Seal said, “ ‘9 to 5 Day’ will give Tennesseans an opportunity each year to set aside a little extra time to listen to one of her most iconic songs and reflect on the once-in-a-century legend.”
The legislation will be considered when the next legislative session begins in January.
