Nashville is one of 40 sites in the US hosting a polling station for the Iranian presidential elections tomorrow.
Iran’s hard-line president is under fire from three challengers. Two of the more moderate candidates may actually have a chance at unseating the president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Iranian citizens living in the US run the polling sites. Ahmad Taheri organized Nashville’s. He says the two or three thousand Iranians living in the Middle Tennessee area are much more involved this time around.
“A lot of them are not happy with the current situation, with the current state of affairs and they’d like to see a change and a different message.”
The polling station will be open from 7 am to 9pm at the Brentwood Hampton Inn.
A complete list of sites is here.
**Update: The Brentwood Hampton Inn denied having a reservation for the group organizing the polling site. WPLN will update this story as soon as more information becomes available.
**Update 2: The hotel and the organizers have worked things out and the election will proceed as planned.
