Nissan North America says its March sales were the best ever.
The Japanese automaker sold 137,726 cars from its Nissan and Infiniti makes. Sales were especially good for the all-electric Leaf. After a sluggish start to the year, Nissan moved more than 2,200 Leafs out of dealer showrooms in March. It’s one of several models built at Nissan’s plant in Smyrna, along with the Altima and Pathfinder.
Other automakers with Tennessee connections also fared well last month.
GM says its sales increased last month. Demand was especially strong for the Chevrolet Equinox, built in Spring Hill. Dealers sold nearly 21,000 of the sport-utility crossover, an increase of almost 5 percent from March of last year.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen saw a 3 percent gain. The company builds its Passat sedan in Chattanooga.
