Metro Council Initially Approves Guns-In-Parks Ban

The guns-in-parks debate has arrived in Metro. Some council members want to opt-out of a new state law allowing guns to be carried in parks.

In an unusual move, Councilman Robert Duval attempted to vote down a bill banning guns in parks bill on first reading. Normally those pass without comment.

“The folks that the state has already authorized to carry in parks are the people that are the cream of the crop, the citizens that can literally pass all of the restrigent[sic]—uh, tests, that are required.”

The ban passed 26 to 9. Several council members who oppose banning guns in parks voted for the bill last night because they’d like to see it discussed in committee.
