Nashville Soccer Club has earned the trophy for having the best record in Major League Soccer in the 2026 regular season, and there are still three matches to go.
The Boys in Gold defeated CF Montréal 2-0 on Saturday, making it impossible for any other team in the league to catch up to their winning record.
It’s the first time in club history that the team has won the Supporters’ Shield. Nashville SC has dominated Major League Soccer this season. In its first 31 games, the team has earned 70 points, with a 21W-3L-7D record. That’s the best record at this point in the season for any team in league history.
And Nashville SC is within striking distance of the MLS record for most points scored in a single regular season. Inter Miami currently holds the record with 74 points. They won the Supporters’ Shield in 2024 before taking home the MLS Cup.
The top prize in MLS works differently than in many major European soccer leagues. Elsewhere, the team with the best regular season record is the champion, but in MLS, teams go on to battle for the cup in knockout-style bracket competition.
“For one, two weeks we can be European, celebrate the championship,” star midfielder Hany Mukhtar joked in a quote to MLS. “But then we have to get back to how the system is here, the playoffs and all that. We need to be ready. We know that it’s a new season in the playoffs, and we will make sure that we are all ready.”
The Supporters’ Shield isn’t just a pretty piece of hardware — it comes with serious perks in the postseason. With it, Nashville SC receives the No. 1 seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Only one of the team’s matches in the best-of-three opening round will be played on their opponent’s home turf.
This win also automatically qualifies the team for international competition in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
