Nashville voters who were mistakenly assigned to the wrong voting districts are being given special instructions to ensure their ballots are counted this week. The guidance follows confusion that came to light last week and the settlement of a lawsuit filed against election officials on Friday.
Previously, officials said that misassigned voters would not be able to cast new ballots. But they’ve reversed course and issued new advice. They’ve also released a list of the voters who may need to take special steps, as detailed below. Here’s what the Davidson County Election Commission is advising:
If you voted early:
First check to see if your name appears on this alphabetized list of 438 voters who may have been misassigned.
If your name appears, you can decided to cast a provisional ballot on Election Day at the Davidson County Election Commission office located at 1417 Murfreesboro Pike. These ballots will be saved and would only be counted if a race is contested later.
Officials say anyone fitting this description will still need to show a photo ID.
If you haven’t yet voted:
Go to your assigned polling place, which you can find with this online polling place locator. (Officials say it is important to check, because some precincts have changed since 2020.)
Once checked in, if your precinct is, in fact, correct you’ll vote at the typical voting machines.
If you were misassigned, you’ll be given a special paper ballot with the correct contests. Officials say they’ll have personalized envelopes ready for these voters. Voters will still need to show a photo ID.
