Uber’s smartphone app shows a driver is ready to pick up passengers at Nashville International Airport
Services that allow regular drivers to give rides to paying customers may soon need a permit to work at Nashville International Airport. The regulations would be similar to those already in place for traditional cabs.
Taxis at BNA need a special permit, which costs $25. Other commercial vehicles, like tour buses and hotel shuttles, also have to pay to pick up passengers.
That’s not the case with Lyft and Uber, says airport spokeswoman Shannon Sumrall.
Since they’re both a new form of transportation provider, we’re in the process of reviewing and updating our ground transportation policy. They will be required to be permitted in some way in the near future.
Airports in other cities are taking a harder line against ridesharing services. Lyft and Uber can drop off passengers at Los Angeles International Airport, but aren’t allowed to pick them up. In the companies’ home town of San Francisco, the airport has banned them entirely.
