It’s World Cup season, baby! … Again.
This time, it’s the women’s teams from 32 countries facing off in Australia and New Zealand. (If my social media followers thought I was annoying during the men’s cup, I hate to tell you I played soccer for the latter half of my childhood, covered FGCU’s excellent women’s team all through college, and still watch Bend It Like Beckham at least once a year).
The first group stage matches began yesterday — with both host countries taking victories in their games. The USWNT, meanwhile, has its first game tonight at 8, against Vietnam. While our women attempt the greatest hat trick in team history — a third-straight World Cup win — a lot of fans here in Nashville are trying to figure out where to watch the big game(s).
So after a bit of research, I’ve got some options for you:
- American Outlaws Nashville, the local chapter of the national nonprofit supporting men’s, women’s and youth US soccer teams, is hosting a watch party at Tailgate Brewery’s Music Row location.
- Beyond the Edge, which dubs itself “Nashville’s Neighborhood Sports Bar,” is playing the match for patrons in the Five Points neighborhood.
- Corner Pub, one of many partner pubs of Nashville SC this season, says they’ll have the game on tonight for fans. (I called the downtown location, but it sounds like any are willing to change a screen to the game if it’s not already on.)
- Double Dogs, another Nashville SC partner pub, will have the game on, at least at their Gallatin location.
It’d be unlike me not to note this little tidbit today too: It’s also National Junk Food Day, so order some onion rings with those chili cheese fries! (Or for my vegetarian and beyond friends, look no further than BE-Hive’s plant-based and junk-filled new menu. It’s glorious.)
