Spring Hill Hoping Website Will Make a Difference

Spring Hill residents have started an online grass-roots movement to lobby for a new car production line.

Spring Hill’s General Motors plant will be idled in November if it doesn’t get a new assignment.

Dustin Dunbar directs Spring Hill’s economic development department. He says Tennessee’s plant makes the most sense for a new car line since GM already spent several hundred million dollars retooling and upgrading the plant in 2007. He launched a website late last week to marshal online support.

“Once we reach a certain date or a certain number of petition signatures, we will send that to the executives of General Motors.”

Dunbar hopes to collect about 10,000 signatures. Orion, Michigan, which is competing with Spring Hill for the car line, has started a competing website.
