Several hundred people rallied on the steps of the state capital today to protest the cap-and-trade bill which is moving through Congress.
Attendees of the so-called Tea Party called the cap-and-trade legislation nothing but a job killing tax. The legislation passed by the House last week is aimed at reducing carbon emissions. One retiree from Shelbyville, Roger Davidson, says he thinks the bill will push jobs overseas.
“The cost of things drives what people are going to do. And all they’re doing now is trying to make the cost of power out of sight and all these businesses are going to move overseas.”
The tea party movement started earlier this year to get a grass-roots movement to criticize government spending. There will be another tea party on Thursday at Legislative Plaza.
