The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Small Business Administration are now accepting appeals and late applications from survivors of the August flood who still need assistance. So far, federal authorities have approved about $16 million in disaster relief.
The SBA signed off on 128 low-interest loans worth more than $9 million. The agency received 440 loan applications from renters, homeowners and businesses. A spokesperson for the SBA says that “about 19 applications are still in processing.”
Separately, FEMA has distributed nearly $7 million to about 2,500 households affected by flooding. Of that, more than two-thirds went directly to housing assistance.
“Of the 3,847 who applied for assistance, 1,348 were invalid,” FEMA spokesperson Darrell Habisch told WPLN News.
Habisch says the rejections were from applicants who weren’t in Dickson, Hickman, Houston and Humphreys counties.
Flood survivors who missed the application deadline, or believe they didn’t receive enough funds, are encouraged to call FEMA to submit an appeal as soon as possible. The majority of survivors who applied for but weren’t offered an SBA loan have up to six months to rectify their applications.
