The Nashville Zoo through a child’s eyes

Last summer, This Is Nashville producer Elizabeth Burton got a tour of the Nashville Zoo.

Do you remember the excitement, fascination, and fear you felt going to the zoo for the first time? Seeing animals that you’ve only seen in books or photos right in front of you is a indescribable feeling. As an adult, some of that magic fades away — especially if you know about the animal rights issues impacting zoos around the world. To learn more about how Nashville Zoo at Grassmere is combating those issues, This Is Nashville dedicated a show to local conservation efforts. But first, Elizabeth got a tour from 8-year-old Robert Frazor.

Elizabeth Burton

Elizabeth Burton is a writer, director and producer originally from Augusta, Georgia. After earning her B.A. from Barnard College, she began producing for PBS NewsHour's Emmy-nominated series ‘Brief But Spectacular,’ where she worked on over 50 short-form interviews. More recently, she has brought her directorial and dog-training chops to work on independent documentary film projects, Nashville Repertory Theatre's ‘Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.' When not working, you can probably find her roaming East Nashville on skates and/or with Cal, her service dog in training.
