Former State Democratic Party Chair Bob Tuke won the party’s primary for the U-S Senate race with nearly thirty percent of the vote.
Tuke says his strategy worked of running against the Republican incumbent, Lamar Alexander, instead of his primary opponents.
“I spent the entire campaign pointing out the differences between me and Lamar, and how badly Tennesseans want change and how we need a real viable candidate to take him on.”
Tuke spoke to WPLN from Memphis. He says he campaigned heavily in West Tennessee since he knew the turnout would be high because of the contested ninth district congressional primary.
The second runner up, the virtually unknown Gary Davis came in with 26-percent of the vote. Davis beat out the other major contender, former Knox County Clerk, Mike Padgett who garnered 15-percent of the vote.
Candidates for federal offices don’t have to file campaign finance reports with the Federal Election Commission if they’ve raised or spent less than 5-thousand dollars. Davis has no file with the FEC.
