Historic Franklin Home To Be Renovated As Hub For Black Culture

The famous Merrill-Williams House near downtown Franklin is getting a makeover as residents work to preserve Black culture in the city’s Natchez Street Historic District. The area was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

As Racist Monuments Fall, Franklin Funds A Statue Honoring Black Soldiers

A new Civil War monument planned for the square in downtown Franklin has reached full funding after a $50,000 donation from the Heller Family Foundation.

The bronze statue will honor the U.S. Colored Troops who fought for the freedom of Black people during the Civil War. It will stand across from a 37-foot-tall Confederate soldier monument, which was erected in 1899.

Nissan: Job Cuts Will Not Result In Layoffs In Tennessee

Nissan North America says a plan to cut 12,500 jobs worldwide won’t result in any additional losses in Tennessee. The automaker announced at its Tokyo headquarters Thursday that the cuts would include 1,400 jobs in North America. But later in the day, a spokeswoman said these reductions have already occurred.
