Proposed Pharmacy Rules Allow More Compounding in Tennessee, Not Less

There soon may be more pharmacy compounding done in Tennessee rather than less. The legislature’s answer to industry problems is to reduce the number of compounded drugs shipped in from out of state.

State Lawmakers Require Meningitis Vaccine for College Freshmen

Almost all incoming freshman will have to get one more vaccination to enroll in Tennessee’s public universities this fall. The immunization will fight bacterial meningitis, a sometimes deadly disease which has been found to spread easily in the close quarters of college dormitories.

Regulators Could Have Stopped Meningitis Outbreak

Tennessee’s top health official today described the steroid contamination that lead to a meningitis outbreak as preventable. But when it comes to tightening regulations on the kind of facility that made them, he urged state legislators to leave those changes to national groups.

Use of Compounded Drugs a ‘Business Decision’

Fifteen people have now died after receiving tainted steroid injections from a compounding pharmacy in Massachusetts. The injections used by three Tennessee pain clinics were reportedly cheaper than an FDA-approved alternative.
