School bus drivers are feeling left out of state’s education overhaul discussions

Longtime school bus drivers like Eric Warfield can feel like an afterthought to education leaders. This school year so far, Metro Nashville Public Schools has lost 34 drivers, including 22 who resigned, 10 who retired and two who passed away, according to school officials.

Within an hour Thursday morning, Middle Tennessee streets went from almost dry to absolutely dangerous. Snow was falling at more than an inch an hour, reaching 7 inches in some places and resulting in hundreds of traffic accidents.

Metro Schools Makes Its Own Try for Race to the Top

Nashville is up against New York, Seattle, and Dallas in trying to pull down $40 million for its school system. The competition is part of the federal grant program known as Race to the Top.
Tennessee was one of the first recipients of Race to the Top money, in the state competition. Now Metro is trying to get money to work with students one on one.

Gentry Tops Kindall’s 27-Year Experience

A nearly three-decade tenure on the school board came to an end yesterday. Ed Kindall lost his seat to fellow board member Sharon Gentry. The two were pitted against each other in District 1 after its boundaries were redrawn.
