Winter storm update: Snowfall breaks 45-year-old record, freezing roads continuing overnight

The snow that blanketed Tennessee on Thursday broke at least one record. Between 6 and 8 inches fell in Nashville. Previously, the most snow in the city on Jan. 6 was 4 inches back in 1977.

Within an hour Thursday morning, Middle Tennessee streets went from almost dry to absolutely dangerous. Snow was falling at more than an inch an hour, reaching 7 inches in some places and resulting in hundreds of traffic accidents.
