Nashville residents in need of rent relief can still tap into $13M headed to Metro Action Commission

Nashville’s Metro Action Commission is about to get $13 million in federal funds. That’s the final portion of its second round of federal funds to help residents who are struggling to pay rent.

The local agency works to address the root causes of poverty. For almost a year, it’s been in charge of dispersing tens of millions of dollars in rent relief.

One of the last allotments of money was a reward from the federal government, since Metro Action dispersed money faster than many other agencies. Still, there has been some distress for renters and landlords. In June, Metro Action met with councilmembers to discuss the logistical barriers of handling the funds — like setting up the technical infrastructure and having sufficient staff to screen applications.

Now that those challenges have mostly been addressed, a new report from the agency shows they’ve already spent more than 60% of their second federal allotment. The largest share of applications are coming from ZIP codes in South Nashville (37013), East Nashville (37207), and Madison (37115).
