The Live Nation trial could reshape the music industry. Here’s what you need to know

Raul Malo, lead singer of The Mavericks, has died at 60

Raul Malo, performing here in Nashville, Tenn. in 2014, died at the age of 60. Malo was the lead singer of The Mavericks, a band that blended country with rock and roll, blues and Latin sounds.

The son of Cuban immigrants, Malo and his band blended country, rock and roll, folk, jump blues, Latin music and Cajun rhythms into a distinct sound anchored by his unmistakable voice.

FTC sues Live Nation and Ticketmaster alleging illegal resale tactics

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, accuses Ticketmaster and Live Nation — the largest ticketing and live entertainment company in the country — of participating in three main illegal practices.

The Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit against Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation, alleging that the company willingly misleads consumers about ticket prices and cooperates with scalpers to markup resale prices.

Musicians keep leaving Spotify in protest of CEO’s defense investments

In the last few months, bands including Hotline TNT and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have pulled music from Spotify in a new wave of artist-led protests against the platform.
