As Race To The Top Money Dries Up, Tennessee’s Achievement School District Forced To Find New Funding

The agency charged with turning around Tennessee’s lowest performing schools has to find new funding. The Achievement School District was born in 2010 out of the Race to the Top program. All of that prize money will be gone next year.

With Improvement In Memphis, More Nashville Schools Become State’s Lowest-Performing

Another 10 schools in Nashville have been deemed eligible for state takeover because of their slow rate of improvement. Tennessee education officials released their list of “priority” schools Tuesday, and the number in Nashville went up, while the figures in Memphis went down.

State Releases Priority Schools List

Doors Open At Three State-Run Schools In Memphis

Listen Now: Tennessee’s new Achievement School District kicked off the year with a party. In the parking lot beside Frayser Elementary School, kids danced, slid on slides, and bounced in inflated houses. There was even a rock-climbing wall and laser-tag.
