Some Jan. 6 rioters pardoned by Trump are now embraced as heroes and candidates for office

Some of the rioters on Jan. 6, 2021, are considering running for office after being pardoned by President Donald Trump. At least two dozen Republican groups around the country have invited rioters to speak in recent months, according to an Associated Press tally.

Tennessee man involved in Capitol riot is convicted of planning to kill investigators

The 35-year-old Maryville man was one of hundreds of rioters arrested on charges of illegally entering the U.S. Capitol. While awaiting trial, prosecutors say the man developed a “kill list” of FBI agents and others who participated in the investigation.

A man who was employed as a Tennessee sheriff’s deputy when he assaulted police officers protecting the U.S. Capitol from a mob of Donald Trump supporters was sentenced on Thursday to nearly six years in prison.

Congress is holding committee hearings tonight on the events that took place at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Close to 20 Tennesseans took part in the insurrection against certifying the 2020 presidential election. Several of the Tennesseans involved are awaiting sentencing.
