For DC’s “Supergirl,” it wouldn’t be at all weird for a Nashville musician to show up in the credits. But the details matter: The movie features a version of the Jimmy Eat World hit “The Middle,” performed by a violinist, singer and recent grad from Middle Tennessee State University.
Theaters are showing more movies with captions on the screen. Will the trend grow?
Nashville movies have become more accessible in recent months. Regal and the Belcourt Theatre have recently started to offer films with captions on the screen — called “open captioning” — of all their films.

So many of my favorite childhood memories with my best friend are us going to the movies. We had the typical theater that played the summer blockbusters, a budget theater that would get the latest superhero flick a couple weeks late but only charged a few dollars to watch it in an otherwise empty theater, and the drive-in that offered just a couple family-friendly films at a time.
‘Jacir’ is a film about a Syrian refugee who navigates poverty and racism in Memphis. The film’s director can relate.
‘Jacir’ is the first full-length feature from director Waheed AlQawasmi, who moved from Jordan to Memphis at the age 13. The drama follows a Syrian refugee resettling in the South, showcasing the best and worst parts of humanity.
