Cindy’s pronouns: she/her/hers
1. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
My interests jumped around quite a bit as a kid, but I usually imagined myself as a novelist, journalist, ballet dancer, or — despite a lack of acting experience or talent — actress.
2. What made you want to work for WPLN News?
I’ve always been passionate about storytelling. After working at a small, rural newspaper in Virginia last year, I was excited to continue to work in journalism and venture into public broadcasting in a larger community. The opportunity to tell and promote stories through writing, radio and social media with a team like WPLN News is one I feel very honored to have.
3. a) Do you consider yourself to be a foodie? b) Any favorite Nashville restaurants so far? c) Any places on your “must try” list?
Yes! Still getting to know the area, but so far I’ve enjoyed some great tacos at Cheap Charlie’s and amazing ramen at Otaku.
(Editor’s note: Cindy is taking restaurant recommendations.)
4. What do you like to do for fun outside the office?
I love to be outside and have been enjoying exploring the trails of Shelby Bottoms (either via running, biking or, if I’m feeling brave, rollerblading). Otherwise, you can find me curled up on the couch with a book and a bowl of popcorn.
5. Where else have you lived besides Middle Tennessee?
I grew up on the West Coast: born in San Francisco and raised in Eugene, Oregon, and later Portland, Oregon. I also spent my first year of college living in St Andrews, Scotland (studying at the University of St Andrews) before finishing my degree at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. Last year I officially made my way out east where I lived outside of Charlottesville, Virginia, before moving to Nashville in August.
