Manchester Mayor Dies Of COVID-19

The mayor of Manchester, Tennessee, has died of COVID-19. Lonnie Norman’s official Facebook page says he passed away early Monday morning.

Nashville-Based HCA Will Voluntarily Repay $6B In Pandemic Stimulus Money

HCA says it’s voluntarily returning $6 billion to the federal government. The money was paid to the hospital chain as part of two programs to prop up the health care industry amid the pandemic.

Vanderbilt Reports Nation’s First COVID Patient To Receive Dual Lung And Heart Transplant

A patient who underwent a dual heart-and-lung transplant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center has been transferred out of intensive care following the procedure Sept. 24. The hospital says it was the world’s first such transplant surgery on a patient with COVID-19, and the first heart-lung operation at Vanderbilt since 2006.

More Tennesseans Than Ever Are Dying From COVID-19: See The Latest Charts

The peak of the pandemic may feel like it passed months ago in Tennessee. But the state just had its highest one-day total for newly reported deaths from COVID-19 — 63 people lost, according to Thursday’s state update. To date, the virus has killed 2,705 Tennesseans.

Gov. Lee: Tennesseans Should Not Be Afraid Of Coronavirus

FEMA Rejects Tennessee’s Request To Fund Protective Gear And Sanitization For Schools

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is rejecting Tennessee’s request to fund protective equipment for schools. The policy decision means the state will have to use $186 million of other federal funding to cover the expense.
