Thousand of demonstrators marched through downtown Nashville in a Fourth of July march against racial injustice. The two-hour protest organized by Teens 4 Equality appeared to draw a smaller crowd than a similar march a month ago.

Tennessee Governor Says Police Will Receive More Training In Response To Protests

Tennessee law enforcement will soon have to receive more training in de-escalation and community-oriented policing techniques. The measure follows calls to slash police funding or eliminate departments altogether, but Gov. Bill Lee says those ideas are non-starters.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee Calls For Meeting To Consider Removal Of Bust Of Nathan Bedford Forrest

Tennessee officials are expected to take the first step toward removing the bust of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest from inside the Capitol. Gov. Bill Lee says he will convene the State Capitol Commission to meet and vote next week.

Davidson County Sets New Daily Record For Coronavirus Cases

Nearly three weeks after George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer, Nashvillians still filled the streets this weekend, calling for change to policing policies, city budgets and which figures should be honored at the state capitol. Multiple protests happened over the weekend, and they turned out demonstrators of all ages.

Nashville Judge Rules State Must Lift Absentee Voting Restrictions

Tennessee must temporarily lift its requirement that voters give a reason to vote absentee, a Nashville judge has ruled, saying that the coronavirus pandemic should not force people to choose between exercising their rights and safeguarding their health.

Nashville Mayor John Cooper Announces City Will Not Have Curfew

After three straight days of city-wide curfews, Nashville residents will not be forced to stay at home tonight.   Mayor John Cooper cites a peaceful demonstration yesterday on the Capitol steps as honoring the “city’s history of nonviolent social change.” More than 100 people gathered outside the legislature for a vigil honoring black lives.   Demonstrators sang and cheered when members of the Tennessee National Guard agreed to put down their shields. Nashville Mayor Extends Citywide Curfew

Nashville Mayor John Cooper says he’s extending a citywide curfew for another night.  The curfew will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. tomorrow. It prohibits everyone but first responders from being on the streets or gathering during that time, unless they have a valid excuse from Metro Police.

29 Arrested, Including Man Suspected Of Setting Fire To Metro Courthouse, After Protests

Twenty-eight people were arrested Saturday night in Nashville, and another man was taken into custody on suspected arson Sunday evening, after a peaceful rally turned chaotic. Protestors set fires in the Metro Courthouse, broke windows, graffitied buildings and vandalized business along Lower Broadway.
